Basic Meaning: forest-dwelling monk
Senses:
Pāli āraññaka-bhikkhu. As distinguished from a monk who lives in the village among people (人間比丘). The practice of dwelling predominantly in the forest was and still is undertaken by those monks who place their main emphasis on the cultivation of meditation.
