  • The unmoved, immobile, or motionless; also 無動, 不移動 (Skt. acala; niścala; dhruva). The term is used for the unvarying or unchanging, for the pole-star, for fearlessness, for indifference to affliction or temptation. It is a special term of Esoteric Buddhism 眞言 applied to its most important bodhisattva, Acala 不動明王. Transliterated as 阿遮羅. [Charles Muller; source(s): Soothill, Hirakawa]
