Project Representative(s): Dhananjay Chavan, Vipassana Research Institute, Igatpuri, India
The Vipassana Research Institute is a Vipassana meditation organization, under the direction of S.N. Goenka, committed to the spread of the Dhamma, both the practice and the theory. They are using digital means to preserve and publish the Pali Tipitaka edition from the Sixth Council, or Chatta Sangayana. They have compiled the complete scriptural texts along with all the commentarial literature on a CD-ROM. All the texts are viewable in three script formats: Burmese, Devanagari and Roman. Their program allows for keyword search, simple navigation through documents and a sophisticated search engine which works in all three script formats. Input is complete for the Tipitaka, commentaries and sub-commentaries and input is continuing on 95 additional texts. New typescripts are also being added in the next version. An online edition is also in the works.
