The Otani Tibetan Project
Project Representative(s): Dr. Seiki Miyashita, Otani University, Kyoto Japan
Prof. Imaeda, the original founder of this project, originally faced with the problem of the total lack of a Tibetan platform, worked together with Apple to develop a language kit. They have, as a result of the establishment of this basic platform, developed a catalog of Buddhist texts, searchable with a Mac-based database program. In seeking a way to combine the various Tibetan collections to create a critical edition, they have needed to develop a program that is a type of hybrid word processor and database, which allows for automated markup. In this effort, they have received support from Prof. Fukuda of Toyo Bunkyo University, who has created a few utilities: 1) a Tibetan-Roman script converter; 2) A search and text comparison tool and 3) A database, which is an extension of the popular Mac database app named 4D, which allows for sophisticated sort functions.
