Matthew McMullen
Matthew McMullen earned his Ph.D. in 2016 from at UC Berkeley, based on a dissertation titled “The Development of Esoteric Buddhist Scholasticism in Early Medieval Japan.” He is network editor for the H-Buddhism Network and assistant editor with the Digital Dictionary of Buddhism. He is currently a permanent research fellow at the Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture, where he serves as editor of the “Japanese Journal of Religious Studies.” His research interests include early medieval and medieval Japanese Buddhism, Buddhist scholasticism, and Tantric Buddhism.
