Seishi KARASHIMA

Seishi Karashima is a professor of Indian Philology at the International Research Institute for Advanced Buddhology at Soka University in Tokyo. Fluent in many languages, he has been engaged for a number of years in philological studies involving the detailed comparison of the Chinese translations of early Mahāyāna sūtras with their Sanskrit originals. Among other things, Prof. Karashima has produced book-length glossaries of the Kumārajīva and Dharmarakṣa translations of the Lotus Sutra. He has generously provided this data for inclusion into the DDB, representing the largest content contribution to date. [2003/11/07]
