Steven Heine
Steven Heine is Professor of Religious Studies and History and Director of the Institute for Asian Studies at Florida International University. He specializes in the Chan/Zen school of Buddhism, especially the role of kōan literature and the development of Dōgen's writings at the time of the introduction of Zen during the Kamakura period. His publications include Dōgen and the kōan Tradition: A Tale of Two Shōbōgenzō Texts (SUNY, 1994), Shifting Shape, Shaping Text: Philosophy and Folklore in the Fox Kōan: Opening a Mountain: Kōans of the Zen Masters (Oxford 2001), and The Zen Poetry of Dogen: Verses from the Mountain of Eternal Peace (DC Press, 2005).
